Talk & Play #10

Details

Talk & Play is a bi-monthly meetup whose goal is to give a better idea of what it's like to create and play games today, providing the opportunity to local independent game makers to showcase their work in a friendly and relaxed environment. Everybody's welcome, whatever their background and knowledge level: if you like (video) games, we'll make sure you have a good time!

The event is free to attend and is split into two parts:

  1. TALK: 2/3 short game-related talks (5 to 15 minutes), followed by a Q&A session – it's all about sharing knowledge

  2. PLAY: All participants are welcome to bring games they've made or are still working on – a perfect opportunity to discover and play new games, collect feedback and, who knows?, maybe find collaborators for future projects

Check the comments section below shortly before the event for the exact schedule, and have a look at the summaries of the previous events (http://linkli.st/LorenzoPilia/8WTOT) to get a better idea of what to expect.

So, who's going to speak at the last Talk & Play of the year?

— Eric Jannot (https://twitter.com/fnord_prefect) is creative director of the startup waza (http://www.wazaservices.de/). He will talk about news games and present their recent release No Male Heroes (http://www.wazagames.de/games/newsgame/NoMaleHeroes.html), a perfect example of this genre.

— Alper Cugun (http://alper.nl/) is an engineer and partner at Hubbub (http://whatsthehubbub.nl/), a Dutch/German design studio that helps people make new things to play with. He will show us a preview of Bycatch (http://bycat.ch), an hybrid card game about drone warfare and surveillance that Hubbub is developing together with Subalekha Udayasankar (http://about.me/subalekha). The game touches on a heavy theme but still allows everybody to determine their on experience (and there's a great gimmick with smartphones).

—Luca Lombardo (http://www.giantbreath.com) likes games and is doing the first steps towards founding his game publishing startup Giant Breath. Christiaan Janssen (http://chrisjangames.wordpress.com) makes games in jams and sometimes outside of jams too. Their talk is titled “Genres Limit Creativity" and will be about the influence of genres in the game design process.
