Software Defined Networking with Windows Server, System Center and Windows Azure

For this event we will be hosting Rajeev Nagar & Ravi Rao from Microsoft

About Ravi Rao

Ravi Rao is a Principal Program Manager Lead on datacenter networking at Microsoft. In his role, he contributes to the overall Software Defined Networking strategy, including technologies such as the virtual switch, network virtualization, hardware accelerations and the TCP/IP stack. Previously, he worked on peer to peer protocols, WAN optimization solutions and networking APIs. Ravi has more than 20 awarded patents. He graduated with an MS in Computer Science from Michigan State University specializing in distributed systems.

MSFT operates very large datacenters worldwide. Lessons learnt from these large-scale deployments are delivered through Windows Server 2012 R2 and System Center 2012 R2, for private and hybrid cloud deployments. Ravi and Rajeev will walk you through SDN specific technologies shipping today as part of the Windows platform.  This will include:

- The Hyper-V Extensible vSwitch as the policy edge of the network

- Hyper-V Network Virtualization as the overlay networking solution

- Windows Gateways providing the bridge between networks, including Windows Azure

- Using OMI for configuring the underlay network

- Using System Center Virtual Machine Manager as a centralized network controller

Great presentation by Rajeev and Ravi!!! Nice to hear about the deployed SDN solutions rather than theory… Appreciate the responses provided during Q&A despite some tough questions.
