Too Many Testing Frameworks!

There is a long list of testing frameworks for Node.js, and even more for front-end JS development: Jasmine, Mocha / Chai, Vows, and good ole NodeUnit... not to mention qUnit and the Testacular / Karma / Protractor nonsense introduced by AngularJS. I propose a round-table discussion on testing strategies: What do YOU use to write and run tests and why? How do YOU write tests for your Node applications? Do you even test? Why or why not? David Rogers will be leading us in a discussion on how to figure all of this out.

The Orlando Node meetup typically lasts about an hour and we meet at Envy Labs in the GAI building in Thorton Park. Parking is free, but you need to park on the 2nd, 3rd or 4th levels to get in. The first floor doors are locked in the evening. Look forward to seeing you there!

Follow @node_orlando, David Rogers (@al_the_x) and TJ Krusinski (@tjkrusinski) on twitter for up to date info on the meetup.

Based on the feedback from the group, I'm running a workshop / seminar on testing over the Summer. Sign up here: http://j.mp/just-enough-testing

Would like to know more about end to end testing automation tools (ie selenium) and the importance of a highly visible and frequently run build process.

Maybe a workshop format would work better for this. I'd be happy to run a session on automated UI testing with a 'real' browser (not Phantom).

Mandarin, lemme know if you wanna collaborate on that. Planning to do some workshops on testing myself...

Thanks @al_the_x for the presentation. Now we need a presentation on how to make people show up to the testing presentation.

Never did unit testing before. Wouldn't mind a brief intro/good tips on how you would get started

Some other stuff worthy of discussion:

    Sinon
    Should/Expect
    Supertest
CI/Automation strategies (i.e. Jenkins, etc. + headless UI testing)

This has been a problem in Node for a while, and I'm interested in the opinions of people in the field who are actually using Node in production (and writing tests for their apps).

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
