Mapping Party in Brooklyn Bridge Park

The weather is getting nice, so let's go out and map!

We'll meet up at Vinapple:
http://www.vineapple.com/

From there, we'll do some mapping of the park and the surrounding area, and then meet up at coffee shop afterwards to go over the data.

For newbies, this is a great opportunity to get your hands dirty with on the ground mapping, and get a chance to use OSM's various mapping tools. For experienced mappers, this is a great opportunity to digitize the Brooklyn Bridge Park.

We has an amazing time mapping the area around DUMBO! Great to see folks come out for our first mapping party!

Okay folks, due to the weather issues, I'm going to move us, so we'll be meeting at Vinapple, at 71 Pinapple Street: http://www.vineapple.com/

The weather report today says that it will be sunny with a high of 70 degrees tomorrow, so it should be nice for mapping!

I don't have an OSM banner (I'd have to carry it on the train anyway, which would be a pain), but we'll tr to meet on the peir, where I understand there are picnic tables. If not, we'll be standing around.

I'll be bringing Field Papers, but if you have a Garmin hiking GPS, you could use that. Or if you have an Android phone, you could use OSMTracker, or if you have an iPhone, I hear Go Map!! (with two exclamation points) is good.

    See everyone tomorrow!

Oh, and yes, please bring your laptops if you'd like to edit afterwards!

If I'm around, I'll stop by. Don't think I've scouted out this area yet.

sorry, it's memorial day weekend and I am out of town.

Do we need to bring a laptop with OSM installed?

    May 8, 2013

    • Serge

Louie, bringing a laptop will certainly help. If you would like to load an editor on beforehand, you load up JOSM (josm.openstreetmap.de) and make sure it works. Alternatively you can use an online editor, such iD, which you can use right from the OpenStreetMap web site. It would be helpful if you signed yourself up for an account and went through the iD walkthrough, though.

That should be "If you would like to load up an editor, you can load up JOSM"... and so on. You can also go through the documentation at learnosm.org if you'd like to learn more about Josm, as well as the kind of on the ground surveying we'll be doing.

Memorial Day weekend, so it should be pretty quiet.

I'll bring Field Papers for folks, as well as introductory material for OSM.
