OSM 9th Birthday, and pre-planning August's mapping party

Hi all,

To celebrate OSM's 9th birthday, I paid my respects to North
America's oldest OSM community in Toronto for their OSM Birthday
party, which was a blast.

While I was there, they had a walking mapping party, with
participants meeting at a subway stop and walking to a
destination.

They're trying this as a way to address "holes" in the city, places
where the data is not very complete. Toronto as a whole is quite
complete, so it's a bit easier for them to find these "holes".

I think we can do the same thing here in NYC, and I think that this is
a good idea for this weekend- so instead of meeting at a coffee shop,
get together at a subway stop and walk, as a group.

This would also be a great opportunity to come out and do some
mapping, if you haven't already, since we'll be mapping as a group,
and since the area will be largely unmapped, there will be a lot of
data to collect, and we'll all be doing data collection together, so
you can see exactly how it's done.

I'll be working out the location tomorrow, but in the meantime, I've
updated the NYC POI Heatmap, available here:

http://www.emacse...

(I've heard reports of it not working perfectly in all versions of
Firefox, so if you're one of those people, try it in Chrome)

For folks who like statistics, some stats on the data in the map:

There are 4,636 POIs on that map, 3,448 of them are named[1], but only
1,439 of them have address data[2], and there are 16 objects that
have an address but no name that should have one (eg a pharmacy in
Brooklyn that has an address, but no name).

[2] Have "addr:street" tags (not necessarily the entire address).
