Announcing a new Meetup for Outdoor & Snow Lovers!
What: Island Hike
When: Sunday, January 22,[masked]:00 PM
Where: (A location has not been chosen yet.)
So you can't make it to Maui this winter? Let's hike an island in the Twin Cities! Pike Island is part of Fort Snelling State Park, and has a trail around the circumference of the island, right along banks of the Mississippi River. First we'll hike the loop around the island (roughly 5 km). Then we'll do another short loop (about 3.5 km) to the south near Lake Snelling, around a peninsula shaped like an ear. Total will be just over 5 miles (8.5 km). If anyone wants to hike farther, there are options. We'll keep a good pace. Afterward if you like, let's find a place that serves tropical style mixed drinks and pretend we're in Hawaii. Meet at the Interpretive Center (they also call it the "Visitor's Center."), at 1 p.m. sharp. If there is snow accumulation, we'll alter the route or bring snowshoes. See link to a good map that shows how to get there. On the map, the center is marked by a square with three rings inside. State park permits required. Leashed pets OK. For park info click HERE
