This group is open to all it's members to put on outdoor acitivity events so all you need to do if you want to put something on is post on the message board or simply send me a message and I will make you an event host. It is very easy, you simply add the date, time and address with a short description about what you want to do.
Regular swimming in outdoor saltwater pool and bike ride is fun and open for you to come just for the bike ride and not swim or just for the swim and not bike ride. Either way there is a cafe at the pool and we all usually have a relaxing chat before departing.
Also a regular jog around Centennial park - this will be suitable for anyone's pace because we don't have to all jog together at the same time and start and end at the cafe there for an enjoyable chat.
Why outdoor exercise?
- It's FUN
- Many of us working leave and return from work when dark so the sunlight is beneficial to be absorbed by the body for vitamins and wellbeing
- Many workers now spend at least 70% of their working day at a desk so getting up, stretching and moving is great for circulation. muscle maintanence, lungs and fresh air is needed.
- Much working time is spent in small proximity to furniture and walls, a bit like being in a box much of the time so getting outdoors where there is wide open space is good psychologically
These are just some of the benefits of course.
Note for beginners who don't exercise at all - I am not offering myself in the role of a personal trainer, therefore your options are to come along (you are most welcome of course) and build up your own stamina and skill or find a personal trainer/training group first if you are unconfident. If you consider yourself as low fitness or unfit you are still very welcome because you can walk instead of jog, bike slowly or swim for a short time as a preference.
The main idea is that everyone is comfortable participating at their own pace and won't be made to feel like they need to be fitter, faster, fatter, skinnier etc.
Ocean swims are held from November through to June each year and mostly run from eastern and northern beaches so these will be scheduled then. For full information and list of swims this year go to www.oceanswims.com
