Next Paddle Fest Plateau? The R Word?

It seems a number of “Fests” start with demos, lessons, vendors, and group booths, music, etc. , then they consider a move to add a new activity and increase attendance.
They begin to use the “R” Word – RACE! Most seem to start the R thing with recreation/fun focused racing with relatively short distances, maybe 1 or 2 distance options, with some reasonable classes. they seem to add some more race distances and classes - you now have more “Winners”.

The best example (and one of oldest) I have experienced is the Two Harbors Kayak Festival in Two Harbors Minn. on Lake Superior www.kayakfestival.org The 2 Harbors Fest Race has more classes and distances than any other fest/race event I have seen. It is quite a site to see 50 kayaks and paddle boats (for just 1 of 3 distances) at a starting line and Off they go – by the way kayakers, be ready to be smoked by a paddle board!!

My 8 year old and I were blown out of the water, between falling in love with paddle surfing and how welcoming everyone was! Thank you so much for making my for Meet-up experience so wonderful!

Wow its been a while since I have attended the my last paddle fest some 4 yrs ago and boy has this Festival matured with presentations, demonstrations, live music, food, and of course water paddle fun.. Great job Mike K. and all the other organizers who worked on this. It was great to see some of my old friends and get back into the saddle so to speak. Had a great time thanks to all.

Based the comments here, I would expect that the Cumberland River Paddlefest, 2015 will draw a much larger crowd and lead may more folks onto our local waters (hopefully using paddle power). I am so disappointed that I could not make it this year. Paddle Adventures Unlimited is a great group (based on my own experiences with meetups).

Still awed by generous spirit, thank you for the great intro to paddling this part of the country! Thanks especially to Tom C for your patience and time: be the duck/wear the boat, dance with my paddle, be safe! Went straight from the park to Hook1 and they are investigating availability of the new kayak I have in mind!

This was such a great event! I invited my sister Barbara and I looked and she was on a paddle board! The only downside was that I took my brand new kayaking life vest off and put it on the ground for a picture. I left it! If anyone that was working with the life vest found a new red kayaking vest with gray trim please contact me! My email is [masked]. Thanks for this great event!

Once again, Paddlefest brings together a whole lotta love & awesomeness! We are grateful to be a part of integrating SUP and be embraced by such a strong paddling community. This event has become a milestone to really kicking off the season for us and we see it becoming a truly epic event for years to come. Much gratitude for all the leaders, volunteers, contributors and participants that make it what it is. Hope to see y'all on the water soon!

Had a really terrific time talking paddlesports and fishing with an open-minded & receptive bunch of folks. LOVE to see everyone paddling, playing, and patting pooches. The only dumb question is the one you don't ask - hope to get in on some more floats soon (unless the moon is full or new, in which case I may be fishing - oh wait, I can paddle AND fish, whee!)!

Great day at the water. Love the breadth of paddlers who attend, and really enjoy sharing the paddling passion with those considering, or new to the sport.
Great job, Michael. Paddlefest keeps getting bigger and better every year.

This was the best ever. I love seeing new people having so much fun on the water. And I got to try the SUP. Did you see me do that 3-legged downward facing dog on the SUP Yoga Board? Hilarious. Thank you Michael, Lauralyn, J.P. and all that made this happen.

I had an awesome time with my niece, and two pyrador pups. Everyone was extremely nice, and eager to help/assist with any question.
It was the first outing with the 5 month old pups , so I really appreciated the padding with your dog demonstration, and the assistance from Jackson kayaks in helping to get my pups out kayaking with me today.

    2 · May 3

    • Ginger L.

Loved the pups! They're so sweet!

It was a very enjoyable day due to the hard work of all the volunteers, vendors, and especially the organizers. I am very new to Kayaking and today convinced me to take the plunge and I owe that decision to my collective experiences today. Thank you very much everyone for helping me make that decision.
