a call for artists

Hello fellow artists,

Right now there is an opportunity for (volunteer) sketch artists or illustrators at Cabrillo National Monument.  This could also be a great project for a High School art class, so if any of you are or know any art educators, please feel free to forward this information.  If anyone is interested or wants more information, send an email DIRECTLY TO ME (don't hit reply, or it'll go to everyone on the Meetup list) and I'll put you in touch with the Chief of Interpretation and Education out there.

If you've been out to Cabrillo, you know that they have wayside placards which feature information and illustrations depicting events relevant to that spot.  They need illustrations for three waysides; there is no monetary compensation, but the artist(s) will have their signature and attribution visible on the permanent information wayside.

My feeling is that they want narrative, illustrative work (literal rather than interpretive).  These are the depictions that they will want, in any medium:

--On the Bayside Trail at the generator building, a large generator (photo references provided) with men working on it

--Cabrillo's ships landing at Ballast Point

--The San Salvador (replica being built downtown at Spanish Landing):  a 10-year-old Portuguese boy (young Cabrillo) helping build the ship

Please feel free to forward this to anyone that you think might be interested.

They need an answer as soon as possible, ideally by next week, so time is of the essence.

Many thanks,

Kathryn Law
