Summer is in full swing, great! As photographers, journalists, and artisans of the world we find ourselves living in front of some very evolving times.

I would like to remind you all, to take in the events that are ongoing at the Getty Museum. The 45 years in photography will be there until mid-August 2008. It's an ever-changing exhibit that now will focus on landscaping. You will also find an exhibit on portraits, the faces are compelling, and will help you analyze the importance of shadows.

Photographers and digital artists of Los Angeles is looking forward to showcasing our members. We want to know more about you, and we would like to highlight you. If you have a studio or you have something you would like to share with the membership please let us know. Contact one of our organizers and they will get the word out by e-mailing our membership.

In our fight as photographers, the First Amendment, which has protected us for so many years, has been challenged in the courts. I will try my best to keep you informed about some of the challenges we face as artisans. One case in point is what happened to Carlos Miller writer, reporter, photojournalist and videographer who was arrested by Miami police after taking photos of them against their wishes. Please take the time to read this article so you will be more informed about your rights and protected against legal go-rounds.

I know you have a desire to show your work, but I do ask that you do not list your best images on the Internet. I've spoken with many of you about this, once the image is listed it's hard to protect. As much as I want to see it on a site I asked that you first copyright your work. This is something that we all should be doing more of, and I will provide you with a link to get more facts about copywriting your work.

Is Photography Dead?

You may find this an interesting article provided by Newsweek, December 2007. Please post your opinions of this article to the blog or to the website.

First look at the Canon EOS 1000D has me excited only because Canon has come up with a new DSLR, and that seems to have forced prices down in their other DSLRs. The 40 D. camera is now under $1000 for the body. The 1000D is lightweight and very compact. But I reserve my review until I have one in my hand to test out.

The race between Nikon and Canon seems to have turned from who has the best chips. To one of who has the most compact camera, D60 Nikon and the Canon 1000D is consumer friendly with great ability to capture images right of the boxes.
