Hack With Me: Unit and Behavioral Tests

Who's up for spending an afternoon learning more about unit and behavioral tests, and writing some for core or their favorite plugin?

We are!

Mike Bijon and Max Cutler will kick off the afternoon introducing unit tests, why they're valuable, and how to write them. We'll then spend a few hours writing our own, either for core or a plugin we admire.

Our goal is for everyone attending to successfully finish at least one unit test.

A week or so prior to the 27th, Zack will post notes on how you'll need to preconfigure your development environment with PHPUnit, etc.

Thanks to everyone who attended, I hope you found it informative. Here are the slides I presented at the beginning: https://speakerdeck.com/maxcutler/hack-with-me-unit-and-behavioral-tests

Please feel free to get in touch if you have more unit testing questions.

Great topic, and the presenters were very accessible once we switched over to coding projects.

one of the better how-to's I've attended for very technical stuff: namely PHP code, PHPUnit Test, the wordpress dev core, vagrant and virtual box. if i can get all that set-up and started, that says a lot about how well this was done.

At first I was a bit overwhelmed with the presentations, although they were interesting. But it all started to make a bit more sense when we got down to actually writing unit tests. Corey McKrill and I cranked out 6 tests, which he submitted to core!

IMPORTANT UPDATE: The Hack with Me event will be held in the TRAINING ROOM of the Unicorp tower NOT the Pine Room in the Lincoln Building. Just Go across the street to where the meetups used to to be held.

In-laws are in-town, so I'm booked up all day.

Was just looking into this today actually! Have another class until 12:50 in NE pdx, so I will likely be a bit late.

Awesome! Thanks for the head's up on the tardiness. For this event, it'll likely be more important that everyone who RSVPs attends so this information is great to have!

I'm really bummed, but my dog is sick and I have to pick him up from the vet at one... I would end up being super late, so I'm un-RSVPing. next time!

As a solo remote worker, I love this idea! I am definitely not an expert in unit or behavior tests... yet.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
