Developer: The Choyce, Dwan, Jorbin, and Nacin Show

We have some WordPress all-stars in town who will be talking with us about a variety of subjects at our next PDXWP Developer event. Given the range of topics and quality of speakers, it's like our own mini WordCamp! Each presenter will get 30 minutes to speak, including questions. The list of speakers is:

Mel Choyce, Designer at Automattic, will be speaking about managing design in an open source project.

Kelly Dwan, Web Engineer at 10up, will be talking about "the loop" and performance.

Aaron Jorbin, Technical Architect at Conde Nast, will be speaking about build tools.

Finally, Andrew Nacin, Lead Developer of WordPress, will be talking about "something cool"; trust me, it will be "really" cool.

There are a few things to note about this event. The PDXWP Users group are meeting at the same time in our normal space. We will be using an alternate space that is TBA. I am just waiting on a final confirmation before announcing. This space will only accommodate 40 people, so sign up quickly if you are interested and please only sign up if you plan to come.

This is a really exciting event and I look forward to seeing everyone on the 23rd!

Sorry Amanda :( I never got your ping. I opened up more spots toward the end and everyone on the list got in!

I hope the group goes back to having the two meetings on different nights so that those of us who would like to attend both are not forced to make a choice.

Zack, I met a few folks in the lobby who went to the Developers Meetup by mistake because your sign to the 10th floor looked better than the Users Meetup sign placed a few feet away....

Yeah...the signage wasn't optimal. We were able to redirect people as needed. This shouldn't happen again and was just a one time thing.

This was my favorite PDXWP meetup yet. Kelly really got me thinking about building efficiency into the underlying SQL queries of the loop. (The storproc question afterward led to a great discussion too.) Mel outlined the step-by-step process to becoming a contributor; a great roadmap. Aaron evangelized version control agnosticism & Nacin’s talk offered great insight into working with metadata.

So glad you liked it, Jesse! If you have any ideas on topics to keep the momentum going, please let me know.
