Developer: Code Review Takes Two

Ever wanted to become a better developer? One sure way: have your code reviewed. Code review can offer valuable perspective on how to write concisely, solve challenging problems, or make your architecture abstracted.

For this Developer meetup, Mike Bijon and Jeremy Ross will step up to show us how code review should be done. In addition to what you should look for as a reviewer, they'll cover ways a review can be conducted and how feedback should be communicated.

Note: Due to limited space, we're capping signups to 75. If you RSVP and realize later you can't make the meetup, please change your status so someone else can sign up.

Great talk, and I picked up a lot of great ideas that should be easy to put into practice. Thanks Daniel and Jeremy!

Yeah, I think we accomplished our goal of demystifying the code review process. They're not as hard to do or to receive as one might think. And they're really valuable! Glad there was something you could implement right away, too.

Anyone in this group interested in helping me solve a problem before I take a hammer to my PC? It involved Genesis Simple Hooks, or, more to the point, why the plugin is inactive after I installed the latest version? I apologize if this isn't the forum for such discussions but the online chatter on the Genesis site has proven to be unhelpful. I'm somewhat new to altering files on the server so my newbie status may be hindering understanding. Thank you.

Great meetup, guys. It's nice to have a safe place to ask questions. I had a few that I categorized as "stupid" questions and not only got some really helpful answers, but everyone was really nice about it to boot! We've got an incredible group of people here!

Great work, Daniel and Jeremy! I think it's safe to say that you inspired everyone to strive toward adopting code reviewing as part of the development process.

Thanks for the inviting me, Weston. If people were inspired to have their code reviewed, then mission accomplished!

Is the code review limited to personal code written in supplement to existing Wordpress code as embodied in plug-ins, widgets etc.?
Or is it possible to ask questions about some aspects of Wordpress existing code(s) that elude one or more practitioners? Thanks

The session will focus on one code review; however there will be a lot of talented people for you to discuss your issue with tonight!

I currently have sites on godaddy and directnic but am looking to find a host that doesn't charge monthly fees and figure out how to upload a template that I downloaded. Thanks!

I signed up as an affiliate with <a href="http://services.super... Internet</a> because they came very highly recommended. They have plans that range from monthly to two years—unless you meant free, in which case please disregard! ;-)

Wow, lots of interest in this one. Great to see!

I'd love to have another code review session. To be honest though, the last one didn't meet expectations and I'd like to make sure the next one turns out much better.

I've started a forum thread for anyone who wants to participate in the discussion, help plan, etc.: http://www.meetup.com/pdx-wp/messages/boards/thread/29726572/

I'd love to go, I missed the last one. Any chance it could be scheduled for a day other than Monday? I started a program that has my Mondays booked for the next couple months.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
