excellent. me in lurk mode, behind on mentoring Python students, so mostly doing that, not as much talking with people there at the venue

Really good. Enjoyed the company and the beer. Learned a few things about the PDX startup scene.

I've invited some coworkers who have never programmed before - I hope that's okay! Is this somewhat structured?

Running the development server might suffice. Less of a toolchain to set up.

True! Nothing quite like python Still, what projects could be based around learning basic python and not how a specific library API works? Calculator?
Do something with an uploaded file?
Email form? Throwing ideas out there..

At the Realtime Conference on the 23rd, so I'll have to miss this time around, but super stoked to make the next! Can't wait to get to know more of the group. :)

Hello, this will be my first time joining the group. Can't wait to meet you all but just one question, would I bee able to use Python on a mac?

Just as a heads-up, I would recommend installing version 2.7. Python's syntax changed in version 3 and adoption of that version has been slow. Most of the tutorials and libraries out there are geared toward the 2.x versions of Python.

The full list of releases and links to their download pages can be found at

Looking forward to seeing you there! :-)

My newly formatted macbook pro running OS X[masked] is running Python 2.7.2 if that helps. Didn't install anything to get there, that I am aware of anyways :)
