Details
So here’s the deal: In order to tell your story to the largest audience possible you will have to use the internet. Facebook, Twitter, KickStarter, YouTube, basic e-mail, etc; all of these mediums become significantly more effective when you add high quality video to the mix.
Luckily there is a local organization that has been teaching people just like you to make high quality video for the last 30 years. Portland Community Media provides access to cutting edge video technology with a staff of seasoned professionals who make sure you know how to use all that gear.
Not only are PCM classes inexpensive, after you are certified to use the gear, there are no additional fees…Ever!
Please come down and learn how your organization can start using these tools of video production to start spreading your story more effectively.
PRESENTERS
Jen Dynes, MetroEast Community Media:
Jen Dynes is the Director of Education at MetroEast Community Media and has just received The Jewell Ryan-White Cultural Diversity Award from the Alliance for Community Media. In 2015 MetroEast Community Media and The Faerie Godmother Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation partnered to host POWGirls filmmaking workshop for girls. Their mission is to help girls 15-19 realize their power, creativity and voice in media production and encourage them to explore opportunities as future media-makers. They want to encourage girls to be creative, tech-savvy leaders who will help realize gender equity in media industries. They want to foster the POWER of WOMEN in MEDIA. Jen will be discussing her experiences using digital media to help these young women share their stories.
Mark Ruskamp, Portland Community Media:
Mark is a hard core dirt ball video engineer with the innards of an artist. He’s been working in live television and video production for over 15 years. Live sports, commercial advertising and community media are just a few faucets of the industry he’s dabbled in. May of 2014 Mark brought his skills to PCM as the Public Access Coordinator. During that time PCM has built two state of the art green screen television studios, purchased brand new field production cameras, state of the art video editing software and laptop computers, and implemented the first community animation studio on the west coast. Of course all of these assets are available for everyone in Portland to use.
Ben Popp, Portland Community Media:
Holding a masters degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Ben Popp is a filmmaker, educator and curator who founded and co-directed the Experimental Film Festival Portland as well as the Microcinema Grand Detour. Ben is currently the Media Education Coordinator at Portland Community Media and is working to develop the first community based animation lab in the country.

WHAT YOU'LL GET OUT OF PDXTECH4GOOD EVENTS
Nonprofit staffers will find a friendly, welcoming atmosphere for those not experienced with technology, and many chances to ask questions of tech-experienced nonprofits and experts.
Techies will find opportunities to hear the real-world stories of nonprofit clients, and put their own expertise to social good — as well as the potential for lasting relationships (be they paid or volunteer) with leading organizations in our community.
Activists and community organizers will see and be given the chance to present on successful uses of technology for social change. We'll explore how technology can help support activism and where activism can push it forward.
