Join us for our August session of Fearless Homesteading! Come for the full-day or join us for one of the two sessions below.

Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, morning session (9:30 am until lunch) -Learn How Easy Canning Can Be! (with a Hands-on component: make and take canned tomatoes)
Farm fresh tomatoes are ripe for the pickin' and you'll want to keep using them in your home cooked meals all year round. If you’re new to canning summer produce, you may be surprised to discover how easy and safe canning truly is and this class will show you how! Susan will show you the basics for preserving summer tomatoes which can be used in the future recipes like spaghetti sauce, salsa, chili, soups and more. Participants will take home detailed instructions, recipes and one jar of canned tomatoes for their pantry! Bring your aprons and roll up your sleeves. This will be a hands on class. Preregistration is required at farmatcoventry@aol.com so that there is adequate supplies available for all attendees. Cost for the am session is $40

Season Extension options for the homestead:
For those of us who hate saying goodbye to the fresh produce in our gardens, learn the various options available for extending the growing season AND, for planning now to get a jump on nest spring's crops. We will discuss low tunnels, hoop houses, cold frames and other techniques which allow us to stretch our growing season to (almost) all year long!

Seed Saving 101: For food sovereignty, thriftiness and to stick it to the big agropharmabiotech folks ;) Learn the basics of seed collection, processing, storage and record keeping and why saving seed is so important. Cost for the afternoon session is $40 or $35 for members of PASA, BFBL and Good Food Neighborhood
