Re: [penn-permaculture] Re: Fwd: [pufn] Mycologist Paul Stamets Comes to Philadelphia in May!

Hi, All,
I strongly disagree with Michael.
While it is true that the Science Festival is sponsored in part by Dow,
the Wagner Museum is a beneficiary of this event, and a very important
institution in Philadelphia.
The Science Festival as a whole is a problematic event, because human
arrogance disguised a science is why we are the predicament of overshoot
in which we find ourselves today as a species, and that same arrogance
generally refuses to do anything except make matters worse based on the
false belief that we have power or control over nature.
No one living in Philadelphia can realistically get through a day
without in someway patronizing or being facilitated by some product of
Dow or an equally horrible company, whether we are specifically aware of
it or not.
However, what Stamets is teaching is opposed to what Dow stands for,
and we do no harm to Dow by boycotting his presentation, but rather to
the alternative understanding of the world that Paul Stamets brings us.
I will be attending, and encourage all who are able to attend.

I raced to purchase my tickets and only afterwords found out from an organic farmer friend that this event is actually being hosted by none other than Dow Chemicals. The next Monsanto messing with GMO and agricultural herbisides, pesticides that are linked to ADHD, cancers etc. It's horrible that Paul, an organic mycologist would even entertain beginning involved. I will not be attending purely on the Dow Chemicals sponsorship and hope others release whom they are supporting. Best wishes
