Dignity Housing is searching for childcare volunteers. Please see below for description.
Organization overview: Dignity Housing breaks the cycle of homelessness and poverty that confronts low-income families and individuals in Philadelphia by providing affordable housing, promoting self-sufficiency, and creating opportunities beyond expectations. Located in Northwest Philadelphia, we serve around 60 adults and 120 children. Dignity’s supportive services include life skills development, health and wellness supports, education and workforce development, a youth program, as well as services for housing placement beyond Dignity. These services are specifically designed to meet the needs of our homeless clients, including residents with physical and mental health disabilities, histories of substance abuse, and victims of domestic violence.
Weekly Opportunity, year-round: Wednesday Nights, 6-8 pm for our Women’s Support Group
Dignity Housing hosts a support group for our women that are either recovering from alcohol or drug addictions or have experienced abuse. We are searching for volunteers to take care of the children so that the mothers can concentrate on recovering, connecting, and supporting. Volunteers watch movies and play games with youth. Typically there are about 10 children that attend.
Monthly Opportunities: Dignity hosts a variety of events every month such as workshops, women's group, resident advocacy meeting, etc. Our events serve the purpose of furthering resident's self-sufficiency and creating a supportive community. Childcare volunteers are needed to provide supervision for children at Dignity’s events. The age of children ranges from newborn up to 12 yrs. The number of children ranges, depending on the event. The volunteer coordinator will work to keep a reasonable number of volunteers for children at all events. Dignity’s Volunteer Coordinator will send out opportunities at the beginning of the month to all interested volunteers.
Volunteers for childcare must go through a background check ($10) and a child clearance check ($10) required by the state of PA in order to work with children. Please contact megan barnes at email@example.com if you are interested.
