March Meetup - Facebook React Workshop

Bring your laptops and thinking caps - it's time to learn about Facebook React!

5:30 - 6:30     Food/networking

6:30 - 8:30   Facebook React - Dustin Getz and Daniel Miladinov

8:30 - 10       Hack on React/get questions answered

Facebook React brings functional programming to the frontend. We will livecode four demo apps, starting at the very basics and working up through more advanced examples. Here is a sneak peek at one of the examples in blog form.

Lots of audience interaction, no slides, yay!

If you plan on attending this meetup, which format would you prefer?

• 2 hour livecoding talk

• 4 hour bring-a-laptop workshop

Please vote here, in this google poll. A workshop means that as we livecode, you will follow along on your laptop, and we will be there to help debug things that go wrong.

(Both are free, obviously.)

About the speakers:

Dustin Getz and Daniel Miladinov are software engineers at Wingspan Technology, where they have been working with React since it was released in 2013. Wingspan is a Philadelphia-area software company specializing in web-based enterprise applications for regulated industries.

Daniel is passionate about clean code, functional programming, and software craftsmanship. He has made contributions to the JSHint and Facebook React projects.

Dustin believes functional programming is going to change the world, and can’t decide what his favorite language is.

Hey guys, we would be much obliged if you would give us feedback on the talk here. 8 questions, none required. Thanks!

It was great to see some practical examples of real world React.js usage.

This was definitely a step up from the average meetup content, practically a full day's course in a few hours. I learned a ton!

Interesting, I found that Pluralsight published course on React.js about a week ago

That was one of the most useful meetups I ever attended. Thank you guys for great workshop, your project looks really promising and adds huge value on top of React.js. Looking forward to meet you again!

For anyone that hasn't been to Monetate, enter through their main doors (with their signage). Go straight past the reception desk, through the cubes, and to the open area.

Speaker here. We will start promptly at 6:30, and run the talk version until 8:30. At 8:30, we will take a break, and anyone who wants to stay later can hang around and we can either talk more, or get you guys coding on your own laptops.
