For those of us who have been working our way through Spinoza's Political-Theological Treatise, as well as others with an interest in philosophy and Spinoza, check out this book just published about the Political-Theological Treatise. Spinoza's work was denouced in the harshest terms by reactionary bigots of the day, yet it came to contribute as much to our modern, liberal, and demoncratic worldview as Jefferson's Declaration of Independence and Paine's Common Sense, at least according to the author. Amazing that critics of it at the time of its publication could say that it was "godless," "full of abominations," and "a book forged in hell...by the devil himself." I am delighted that our group of galant inquirers choose to read this text and stick with it, as it it is a serious philosophical work of deep insight and continuing relevance for our day and times.
