Net Tuesday, June 1: Using Facebook for Social Change

How can you use Facebook to support your nonprofit or social change cause?

The answer to this question was never simple -- and with ongoing changes to Facebook's privacy settings, tools for groups and organizations, and integration into other websites, it can be confusing to keep up.

On Tuesday, June 1, we'll explore this moving target in a couple of ways. First, we’ll have a panel share some experience and insights. Then, we’ll have a “Facebook Clinic”, where we'll invite attendees to show their organizational or social change-focused Facebook presence, and we’ll apply our collective wisdom to offer “diagnoses” and “prescriptions” on how to become even healthier and more effective.

No one of us understands all things Facebook, but as a group we're smarter than any individual. Together, we will:

  • explore effective strategies for using Facebook for attracting supporters, building commitment and community, increasing awareness and raising money
  • discuss Facebook’s most recent privacy and publicity changes, and what the implications are for organizations and social change initiatives
  • talk about measuring your involvement in Facebook, so you know whether it's worth more or less of your time

We're actively looking for participants for our program – both as panelists and clinic “patients”. If you or someone you know has experience with using Facebook for social initiatives and might like to join the panel, please contact Ivan Boothe. If your organization or cause has a Facebook presence, please consider sharing it during the “Facebook clinic”, and benefiting from the focused attention of the group.

We'll be meeting at the law firm of Buchanan, Ingersoll and Rooney, on the 32nd floor of 2 Liberty Place (50 S. 16th Street), and we'll begin at 6:30 (note this new time). As always, your RSVP is appreciated, but not required. Hope to see you there.
