Net Tuesday, November 9: Political Issues of the Social Web: Nurturing or strangling social technology opportunities?

b]NOTE: Our next Net Tuesday will be November 9 (NOT the first Tuesday of the month, which is Election Day – PLEASE VOTE.)

We'll be meeting at the Friends Center, 1501 Cherry Street, starting at 6:00 PM.

Regulation of the Internet is a hot topic in Harrisburg, Washington and other political centers. Technology changes faster than the law. Legislators are scrambling to catch up. The internet, and social web technology in particular, is challenging existing institutions and power structures.

  • What is Net Neutrality, and why should I care?
  • Do we still have a right to privacy in this new, networked world?
  • Is copyright necessary and helpful, or an outdated hindrance?

Answers to questions like these, and laws and regulations to address them, will have an increasingly profound impact on our ability to create and use social web tools.

Join us on November 9 as we learn about current political issues related to our access to and use of the social web. We’ll have a panel of knowledgeable presenters and you're encouraged to share your personal experience and perspective. (More info will be coming soon. Slots are still open for the panel, and we welcome your suggestions.)

Together we can demystify these important issues and learn how to enhance our abilities to nurture the social web for social good.

As before, we’ll also be streaming the event live, and supporting a Twitter backchannel. More info at.
