Skeptical School Boards

Robert W.
Glendale, AZ
Post #: 7
Does anyone have any knowledge about the stance on science held by local school boards? I am simply ignorant as to whether there is any pressure to get unscience into our science classrooms, or if school time and resources anywhere are being co-opted by faith-based groups.

This is a subject I am prepared to get militant about. Our (collectively) kids have to do more than pay lip service to math, untainted science, engineering, and, above all, the principles underlying the scientific method.

The forces that define the 'haves' and 'have-nots' have included might, religion, racial prejudice, or some combination thereof. Now, it's having a grasp on the underpinnings of our technology. Over the next couple generations, failure to engage such concepts as:

  • the contemporary understanding of gravity
  • newtonian dynamics vs. relativity
  • what quantum mechanics is and isn't
  • roughly what the Large Hadron Collider is for
  • why evolution is, "the single best idea anyone ever had"

will inevitably leave many behind.

If anyone catches wind of school anti-science shenanigans, and wants to assemble a rational mob, count me in.
