Hi all!

Please welcome EcoBooks as our new sponsor! They have offered to host our meetups at the bookstore (so now we have two locations to choose from!), and are also offering discounts to our members. See: http://www.wix.com/ecobooksaz/Eco-Books

The purpose of this meetup is to learn about and appreciate all kinds of topics related to physics and philosophy. There is no "goal" or "agenda" other than the journey of learning and meeting people with overlapping interests.

I am a fiscally conservative atheist, but welcome people from all walks of life. I hope to inspire and allow others to present at the meetings and inspire as well. We will keep a positve, calm tone at meetings. One can hope.

You should join if you are interested in any of these topics:

Space Exploration
Humans in Space
Closed Environments
Planetary Science
Robotics
Cosmology
Astrophysics
Quantum Physics
Chaos Theory & Dynamics
Consciousness
Determinism/Indeterminism
Neuroscience
Economics
Evolution
Atheism
Morality
Metaphysics
Longevity
Genetics
Cryonics
Nanotechnology
Clean Technology

I started this meetup for a few reasons:

I spend a lot of time thinking about various topics related to physics and philosophy and not enough time talking to humans about it, other than a few long distance chat friends.

I'm writing a book on some of the topics listed above, all tied together with chaos theory. For some of the meetings I would like to read from my chapters-in-progress and get your feedback.

And lastly, for nine years I organized chapter meetings for the National Space Society, and I miss it! This meetup will be even better because it can include space and so many more topics. Among other activist work, the NSS meetings involved a monthly lecture series followed by discussion.

Format of the meetings:

I would like to follow the format of my NSS meetings. It worked so well for nine years! We'll start off with 20 minutes of social time, then kick off the lecture (or informal talk, or movie, or performance, or book reading, etc), followed by discussion as a group. Meetings are scheduled 7pm-10pm, but may not run that long. Please allow for some friendly rowdiness and awkward social skills during the discussions. Some of us are geeks and this is all "normal" to us. Thank you for your patience.

Onward!
Elaine
