Owner-Surrendered Dogs

If you want to surrender a dog that YOU own, feel free to contact us only if you're interested in discussing ways that might allow you to keep your pet. Check out our KEEP YOUR DOG program. We rarely take owner-surrendered dogs, except in exceptional circumstances. We do not consider "moving," "having a baby," or "not enough time" to be "exceptional circumstances." We call those "life." However, we do recognize that people experience difficult circumstances and may need a little help, guidance, or advice about ways they can keep their pets given changed circumstances. If you have an open mind and a willing attitude, talk to us. We'll try to help. We may, with your permission, even use your success story to help other dog owners.

Stray Dogs

(as of 09/14/10 all of our foster homes are FULL and we are unable to accept any dogs into the program. I will update this post when we get some space in our foster program)

If you wish to surrender a stay dog, you must live in California and be willing to transport the dog for a temperament evaluation prior to our agreeing to accept the dog into our program. Because we must temperament test our dogs, you should live near one of our foster homes. Most of our foster homes are in northern California, but we have a few elsewhere (and always need more, so if you want to foster, click here). We do not require, but we certainly appreciate, your donation.

We only accept dogs that appear to be purebred American Pit Bull Terriers or American Staffordshire Terriers.

To surrender a dog, you must copy and paste the questions below into an EMAIL and send your answers to us. Attach a photo of the dog. All answers are required for further processing

1.What is your name?
2.Your address?
3.Phone number?
4.Is the dog yours legally?
5.Is the dog male or female?
6.Is the dog sterilized (spayed or neutered)?
7.About how old is the dog?
8.About how much does the dog weigh?
9.Is the dog current on vaccinations?
10.Does the dog have any health conditions or medical issues?
11.Has the dog ever bitten a person (to the best of your knowledge)?
12.Has the dog ever bitten another animal (to the best of your knowledge)?
13.Why do you want to surrender the dog?
14.Describe the dog's personality.
15.Is there anything else we should know?

We get MANY emails. We do try to respond to everyone, even if we cannot help you, but please understand that if you don't hear from us, it's because we cannot help you and we're a little overwhelmed with requests or other work.

This forum is not the appropriate venue to list dogs that you would like to find a home for; such threads will be deleted with an email sent to the poster reminding them of this policy. Repeated attempts to post dogs here will be cause for your membership to this group to be revoked.

If you would like to bring attention to the plight of a local shelter or rescue dog, you may post that information but the post MUST contain a website link to the shelter or rescue with the dog's information for verification purposes.
