We're excited to announce our very first brewery tour! For our inaugural trip, PA Brew Tours will be taking us to Voodoo Brewery in Meadville, PA, about 1.5 hours north of Pittsburgh. Ticket price includes transportation, a brewery tour and beer samples.

This is a private tour, available only to Pittsburgh Beer Meetup members and their guests. Advance ticket purchase is required and there are only 24 tickets available. RSVP'ing here for this meetup does NOT guarantee you a spot on the bus! You must buy a ticket through the link below in order to attend. Please only RSVP "yes" AFTER you have purchased your ticket. (I can't figure out a way to set up a "meetup" that allows 0 participants.) Tickets will go on sale here on Wednesday, May 1 at 10:00 am. Cost is $41.00 plus $7.25 in fees, which brings the total to $48.25. (The Showclix ticket purchasing site gives you the option to earn a few bucks in discounts by sharing your ticket purchase via Facebook and Twitter.)

Here's the plan...we'll meet at Carson Street Deli on the South Side of Pittsburgh at 11:00 am, board the bus at 11:30 and head north! After our brewery tour, you might want to order food from Voodoo's small but interesting menu, and enjoy your lunch and another pint or two on an old traveling-circus-ticket-booth-turned-pub table or on one of the reclaimed church pews that add to the quirky "American Pickers" vibe inside the brewpub. Your beer will even be poured from one of several taps coming out the front of a 50's style refrigerator that used to belong to one of the owners' relatives! We're expected to return to Carson Street Deli around 5:00 pm.

This is going to be an awesome event! Mark your calendars for the ticket sale date so you don't miss out!

I was very disappointed in the beer. 2 Gran Cru. It was flat. I don't know about the rest of you, but I felt like the Emperor in "The Emperor's New Clothes". Everyone was telling me how great this beer was. Sorry, but everything that I know about a BEER says it Must have Die "Blume" - literally 'flower' but meaning the foam on top. the 2 Gran Cru had no BLUME and therefore to me was NOT a BEER or should have been poured out.
The best VOODOO beer that I had during the tour came from the bottle purchased at the Deli (Big Black Voodoo Daddy). In my opinion, the draft beer at the brewery was lacking. Particularly "BLUME".
The tour was good. The people who came were AWESOME. The people had much more "BLUME" than the Voodoo draft beers did

Had a great time. Having been there before it was exactly what I expected. Enjoyed seeing the behind the scenes wizardry. The 2 Gran Cru was a sweet surprise!

I'm not sure about Lars, but I can't wait until the upcoming Brew Tour to Marianna Brewing Company and tasting some of their Deer Dropping E. Coli IPA and Sh1thole Porter. ;)

It took a long time to get waited on and order/get food. I thought there would be more tasting samples available to us as the bartenders seemed to be busy. It was a longer wait than I particularly like for service. As this was a big group, it could have been planned better for a little faster service and to provide more tastings. Overall though, they have great beer and it was a good time!! Thanks for having me!!

PARKING INFO: I've heard from some people that they never feed meters in the South Side on Saturdays and have never gotten tickets, but according to the Pgh Parking Authority website, meters/lots ARE enforced on Saturdays, so I'll leave that decision up to you. There is some meter-less parking on some of the smaller side streets/alleys (like the one right behind Carson St. Deli) where you may be able to find a free spot if you're lucky. Just don't block anybody's driveway or garage or your car will most likely get towed.

Additionally, there are a couple school lots and a park lot that are free but a little bit of a walk to the Deli. You might try:
    ~Carey Way between 19th & 20th
~Riverfront park at the end of 18th
~Across 9th St. from Cupples Stadium

    See you all on Saturday!!

If you didn't get a ticket and would still like to attend, please let me know and I'll create a waiting list. hey guys! im excited to see this meetup traveling to voodoo! i live in the area, however i wont be by the time this event takes place. voodoo is a unique experience. their bar's atmosphere is the best in town. they will have their normals on tap (pilzillla, love child, gran met, ect) as well as some other crafty, usually seasonal, beers. last summer i remember a cucumber beer on tap that was fantastic. if you like thick chocolate stouts, maybe they will have their cowbell on tap. you guys are going to have a blast!! the brewers and staff there are super nice and excited about what they do. also, if you're going to be in meadville, check out roff school tavern. they have[masked] beers available there. im a member of their beer club and host trivia there every monday.

Are there going to be any interesting tappings or is it just going to be their normal stuff?

Is there any chance the Happy Bus will make an extra stop in Cranberry? If not, will there be a reduced price for those providing their own transportation? I live about halfway between Carson St and Meadville, so driving to Carson St doesn't make a lot of sense for me.

      1 · March 26, 2013

    • Brooke

Sorry, guys, the bus can't make any extra stops for liability reasons. If you prefer to just meet us there, that's great, but you won't be entitled to the tour or samples that are included in the ticket price. We'd love to share in your company, though!
