Because its great fun, you go there to enjoy your time and play some proper D&D with people who know how to play the game. The people are friendly and love to have fun. What else can you ask?

“Hey Patrick, since you too share an affinity for TSR's D&D, and anyone else reading this post is welcome to as well, please feel free to check out my latest message board posts on the 2 campaigns that I am running. Why? Well, because I have managed to track down the errata rule revisions and clarifications for AD&D as well as other roleplaying games. I have provided the website addresses so that anyone can easily access the resources and aides available for all the many TSR and WOTC games.”

“Hey thanks for the warm welcome. I am still very new to D&D and yet to play a game. I picked up the 4.0 core books recently and have been just messing around with making some characters. Do you think it would be worthwhile for me to head to Phantom of the Attic this weekend? I'm quite a shy person, so don't know how good I will be with meeting a bunch of people. I think I can probably make it though. Anyways, Thanks again!”

“Hello, welcome to Pittsburgh, and the PGH D&D meetup group. Let me or one of the organizers know if you need anything. We'll help you to try and find a group. Do you have a preference for what edition of D&D? They all exist here. Plus other non D&D Games, like Conspiracy X. I also know of groups that play things like Aces & Eights, a wild west game, or Traveller. - Etarnon”
