The Pittsburgh Writers Meetup Group Pages

Collectively, we decided that we want this to be a "safe place" for writers to come and read their work among friends and peers. Our objective is to motivate and inspire each other to do more of what we do -- communicate through our writing, try out different voices, explore made-up people, places and things, provide a personal perspective on "whatever it is we write about" that can be shared .... We also seemed to agree that we would prefer to focus on positive reinforcement.

The location seems to be good for everyone and the private room is especially nice. Thanks Panera! We have the room from 6 PM til 9 PM. We also decided that a $2 fee was fair to cover the costs of paying $72 every 6 months.

Next Meeting:
Option #1 -- Participate in writing exercise. Spend 15 minutes writing about a topic chosen by random and then read your work to the group. Please note: "Reading to the group" is always optional, too.
Option #2 -- Write something and submit it to me prior to the next meeting. I'll distribute it among the members of our group, who will then be able to respond to it at the next meeting. You can still read it aloud to the group, if you choose.
Option #3 -- Write something prior to the meeting and bring it with you to read to the group.
Option #4 -- Just come to the meeting, participate (or not) in the exercise and basically know that you are welcome to participate at whatever level you need or want to -- the group's purpose is to support and encourage the writing. So, come as you are.

This is new stuff!! I'm not going to try to reinvent the wheel, so lets look at option #1 above with this twist.
This should remove some pressure from peoplewink!
You write it, pass it over to someone else, left right (we will decide at the time) let them read it.
That way your reading to the group something someone else wrote. You wont feel under the microscope because you didn't write it!
