1st Movie Night! - Motorcycle Diaries

UPDATE: The votes are in and we'll be watching Motorcycle Diaries. Not my first choice, but still a great movie. Any simple ideas for a food or drink that would go along well with the movie? Contact me\leave a message ASAP and I'll speak with the owner of Beans about a special menu for us.

I've been wanting to start a regular movie screening night since the inception of Polyglot Cafe, and am excited to announce that it's finally here!

Beans Cafe will be hosting us and projecting the movie on a large screen. It's a small place so I'll be putting a cap on the number of allowed RSVPs - please RSVP only if you plan on coming and cancel if you change your mind. If they invite us back, I'll make this a more regular event so you'll get another chance to attend.

Beans has delicious sandwiches and a small but reasonably priced menu that changes regularly. Everything I've ever had from the kitchen has been delicious. They also serve beer and wine. We'll may be taking up all of their seats on a Saturday evening, so you're encouraged to order something and support the business. If it works out well, we'd like to be invited back! The meeting will start at 6:30 so you can get a chance to order food and hang out, then the movie will start at 7 or 7:30.

The movie will be in the original language with subtitles in English.
Leave a comment or send a message for recommendations. Keep in mind that they have to be appropriate for all ages since this is a public place.

Motorcycle Diaries

The dramatization of a motorcycle road trip Che Guevara went on in his youth that showed him his life's calling.

I know that libraries have rooms that you can use. Fort Bend has severals.

Thanks for the recommendation! The problem with libraries is their hours :(

Thanks for coming and making the event a success! My only problem was that the cafe was too bright for the projector to show all the dark scenes. I'll ask them if they can turn off all the lights in the future, but does anyone have any other recommendations for a venue that might work better? Otherwise we'll have to find movies that have no dark scenes, haha.

This was a great idea. I enjoyed the film and learning another side of Che. But even more I enjoyed meeting new interesting people and seeing old friends.

Last update! If you're not attending, please change your RSVP. If most people show up, we will fill this cafe, so get there early for a good seat! The meeting starts at 6:30 and we will start the movie after ordering and settling. This is a small cafe with only 1-2 people in the kitchen, so keep in mind that food might take a moment. I think the specials are a choice of Somalian samosas or a Monte Cristo (a French toast\sandwich hybrid) plus a tea. Of course they also have other sandwiches and snacks; paninis are my favorite. They also have pretty delicious tiramisu, ice cream and mousse, so feel free to share with me :). I'm not sure what the beer\wine deals are (maybe bottles to share at a discount?). During the movie, let's try to keep the noise level at a considerate level. And as long as we're being considerate, let's try to leave the place clean and show our appreciation to the establishment, as they're going out of their way to host us.

Looking forward to seeing you all!

I'll be closing the poll soon, so it's time to get your votes in! http://www.meetup.com/polyglot/polls/922372/
Celia, the owner of Beans, said I could expand the RSVP list to 40 in anticipation of some no-shows. I think we're going to pack the place.
    Bring your appetite!

Just wanted to comment that Beans is hosting us for free and we'll be taking up most of the cafe, so you're all encouraged to order something. They have regular coffee shop drinks + wine, beer and a small/tasty food menu.

I love this idea. Movies are awesome. A Bollywood night might be fun sometime. Highly recommend 3 Idiots and My Name is Khan.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
