SFPUG August: Postgres + Vertica

What: PostgreSQL <--> Vertica

Who: CB, Etsy.com

Where: Etsy's brand-new San Francisco offices, 20 California Street.

When: Tuesday, August 27th, 7pm

Food and space generously sponsored by Etsy.com.

Continuing our trend of interfacing PostgreSQL with lots of other stuff, for August Etsy's Big Data geek, CB, will be talking about how he exchanges data between PostgreSQL and Vertica (a Postgres fork).

This talk is for Postgres DBAs who might need the power of Vertica as part of their toolkit. CB will talk about why they should consider Vertica as a sidekick to their Postgres installation, and how it can help them in ways they may not have thought. He'll also discuss the tools that they have built that make integration and ETL a snap.

Etsy.com will be sponsoring a taco bar from Tacolicious for this event.

Live streaming video should be up at ustream.tv/sfpug

(note: the "map" from Meetup is wrong.  If I could disable it, I would)

    This was a very useful meetup. I will definitely learn Vertica after it.

    This was one of the most entertaining Meetups I have attended. Great presentation that helped expand the role of Postgres in a mixed environment.

    A great location, and great food and drinks. Many thanks to Etsy and CB. CB made lots of interesting observations between Vertica and Hadoop.

    I did not have much interest in the topic originally but the presenter had a lot of enthusiasm and was very informative and persuasive, I left much more interested than when I arrived. Very effective.

    Hey... The text for the addresses says 20 California, but the map link is something entirely different. What is the correct place?

    August 27, 2013

    • Josh B.

      20 California is correct. The mapping function on Meetup sucks.

      I don't think that's likely to be covered in this session. However, you're welcome to discuss that over beers afterwards.
