SFPUG April: Sharding with Instagram

Mike Krieger will speak about how Instagram evolved their PostgreSQL data storage as they scaled from 0 to 27 million registered users in less than two years. We'll walk through the history from a single machine to their current sharded setup holding over 2TB of data, and discuss how we evolved our use of PostgreSQL to match our rapid-scaling needs.

Is there a video of this by chance, for those of us who never made it off the waiting list?

The speaker's talk was full of humility, real-world experience, and common-sense problem solving. Basically the ideal presentation.

Great talk, logical sharding and virtualizing the shard instances instead of concrete physical sharding is hot; great use of PostgreSQL schemas.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
