Advanced WAL File Management with OmniPITR

Robert Treat, COO of of OmniTI, is back in the NYC PostgreSQL speaking circuit and will be joining us this month on May 15th. Robert is an international speaker on databases, open source, and managing operations at scale. He has worked on numerous open source projects over the years, and has been recognized as a Major Contributor to Postgres for his work.

Robert will be discussing WAL management and Point-in-time-Recovery - which is simultaneously one of the most powerful and one of the most misunderstood features of Postgres. Below is a description of his talk - we are looking forward to seeing you this month!

Ever since the advent of PITR in Postgres 8.1, people have beencreating one off scripts designed to manage PITR and the xlog filesthat come with it. We've were just as guilty of this as anyone else,making customized script after script for clients, tweaking for one difference or another. After many years, we decided we could dobetter, and OmniPITR was born.

OmniPITR is a set of scripts designed to help manage and maintain WALfiles for Postgres database. It was created in an effort to replacethe myriad scripts we've encountered, and written, managing ourclients Postgres installs over the years. It includes tools for both archiving, restoration, and creating portable backups on both themaster and slave instance.
