Until I was 30, when I was excommunicated for being in a lesbian relationship.. My great grandparents and grandparents were prominent Mormons. My sisters are still active. My brothers, one of whom is gay, are not.
My Jack-Mormon mother and her supposed fate in Mormon Hell; my cynical Southern Baptist father; the racist, homophobic, and sexist doctrine of the Church; Fawn Brodie's book, No Man Knows My History, and my introduction to beer.
I stand all amazed at the fact that this group exists! I am an excommunicated 67 year old retired woman who would enjoy the company of other post-Mormons in Utah's rarefied air. My husband is not social. Thanks all. I'll join you the next time I can.
This was not a bitch-about-Mormonism group. We talked about a potpourri of things: hiking, karaoke, ECT, the art of persuasion, Portland, the color of curtains! It was a social gathering in which we felt no restrictions on what we discussed, including the struggles of living as non-Mormons in rarefied Mormon air. Nice company!
