This is a group for those who are interested in meditation as a tool for some sort of spiritual Awakening, in this lifetime.
Spiritual Awakening is a term with many interpretations. For us, the goal is simple; an initial Awakening, in which the illusion of self is seen through, then the removal of all our remaining neurotic selfish patterns of behaviour. This the Awakening of which people like the Buddha spoke of.
The group is focussed on meditation, and the integration of meditation into our lives to eliminate suffering. So, we organise meditation groups, courses, social meetups for people to learn, meditate, share, motivate and inspire each other.
We welcome all traditions and techniques but are biased to those which are effective, and work quickly for making real psychological and spiritual change in people. We also tend to prefer techniques which work for people with regular lives (not monastic) and which can be culturally relevant for people living in the London.
Some core texts on Awakening are:
Daniel Ingram's book, Mastering the Core Teachings of Buddha (a fairly hardcore manual on how to use vipassana meditation to reach initial Awakening)
Adyashanti: The End of your World (An utterly essential book for those who had an initial Awakening)
See the resources pages for more information on these. But we are unaffiliated and people from any religion, non-religion or style are welcome. We aim to represent a mix of all kinds of practice - vipassana, Zen, Tibetan, Advaita, non-dualism, atheist, agnostic, and just curious people with no spiritual background.
Aim to be there...will we be spending some time meditating?
