Prague Spring, NYC Chapter Pages

The name of our group originates from 1968 Czechoslovakia, when citizens living under communist rule wanted a greater say in their own government. The grass roots movement began with the debate of issues of the day. Prague Spring’s goal is to facilitate intelligent debate here in New York City. Although we do not aspire to any movement, we believe intelligent governance starts with an informed electorate.

Prague Spring benefits from the wonderful diversity of people in New York City. The varied perspectives from people from all over the world and across the political spectrum provides a rich and intellectually stimulating experience.

Prague Spring regularly conducts book discussions scheduled about one month in advance of the meetings. We find these in-depth readings allow for a deeper understanding and analysis of the pressing issues of our day. Our goal is to identify the problems facing our generation, understand the dynamics of and between differing civilizations and cultures and discuss possible solutions. Should you join us for these meetings, please familiarize yourself with the links on the introduction, especially if you come to a book meeting and cannot read the book itself.

Some of the books we have already covered include:

1. Naomi Klein: The Shock Doctrine
2. Jared Diamond: Guns, Germs and Steel
3. Fareed Zakaria: Future Of Freedom
4. Lester Brown: Plan B 3.0
5. Charles Morris: Trillion Dollar Meltdown
6. Peter Schiff: Crash Proof 2.0

Upcoming books currently under consideration include:
2. Strobe Talbott; The Great Experiment
3. Daniel Yergin; The Prize
4. Zeev Maoz; Defending the Holy Land
5. Jared Diamon; Collapse

We are working on updating the Discussion Board on the Prague Spring website. We would like to move the latter to a stickier platform and would appreciate help from anyone that can assist us.

In addition, Dyutiman, a former organizer of the group that moved to Houston and hopefully will set up a chapter there, maintains a blog of his own.

Most importantly, this is a participatory group. Please send your ideas, questions or comments to Lee, Prague Spring’s Founder and Organizer.

Thanks for your interest. We look forward to your joining us!
