January Python Meetup

Dear Barcelona Python Meetup group members,

We are setting up a new Python Meetup, to start 2013 in a happy Python-ish way.

The idea is to have at least a couple of 30-minutes talks here in the PRBB, and then go out for drinks. The talk can be about anything related to programming or to Python, and of any level, for experts or for novices.

Preliminary schedule:

Raúl Cumplido: introducing the Spanish Python Association

Raimon Esteve: Tryton, a framework to ERP applications

Brandon Invergo: Python-packaging the GNU way with pyconfigure

(If time is enough): lightning talks session

This meething is co-organized by the Institut of Biologia Evolutiva (http://www.ibe.upf-csic.es/ ), of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra of Barcelona.

Yours sincerely,

Giovanni, Raúl and Toni

Giovanni, could you post a link to the science awards you mentioned? I've tried googling for it but I can't find them.

ok Raimon, no problem. It seems that Raul will not be able to come, so you have some extra time to talk if you want.

Good morning guys, are the talks going to be in Spanish or English, or both?

    January 18, 2013

    • Giovanni D.

Hello Alexander, the talks and the meeting will be in English.

@giovanni ok. 10 minuts about project organization + 10 minuts about framework

    January 10, 2013

  • Giovanni D.

@Raimon: ok, 30 minutes is fine. Thank you for volunteering :-)

I would say that the two main talks can be from 15 to 30 minutes each, including questions. If we finish too early, we can do some short activity, like a lightning talk session or some live coding. I think this should be enough for this meetup :-)

@raul 30 minuts? not more. if I talk more time, people are sleeping ;)

Good news: we have a talk proposal by Brandon Invergo, GNU developer and PhD student from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra. He will give a talk about pyconfigure, a tool that is very useful if you have to include C or fortran dependencies in your python setup packages.
