Monthly Meetup

We have a few lighting talks lined up but we're definitely hoping more people will want to participate with lighting talks.

Chip Warden: Python's CSV module

(Part of our module of the month series)

Jon Smajda: Django REST Framework.

(Ingenology hosted the NASA Space Apps Challenge ( in Kansas City last weekend and they built two mobile apps for it and both apps used APIs Jon quickly built using Django and Django REST Framework)

Juan Gomez: Getting started with the Raspberry Pi

(A version of the lighting talk to be presented at KCITP Hack & Tell on Friday)

Interesting talks (except that one on CSV) and great conversation afterward.

Great talks. My son is just starting to show some interest in programming and the excellent Rasberry-pi talk by Juan really fired his imagination. That is all we talked about for the rest of the evening. The first and last talks went way over his head, but that was no surprise. All the presenters did an excellent job. I really liked Chip's integration of past topics into his presentation. That is the sort of feedback loop that greatly enhance the value of these meetings. I was was also very impressed by the last talk and really appreciated the presenter (forget his name) sharing his HTML scraping techniques. He probably had not planned on showing that part of the code since it was unrelated to django-rest. His response introduced me to mechanize and pq, two technologies that I had not used before. Excellent event. Well worth the 1 hour car ride each way.
