Intro to Python Workshop

This is a two-day event that is geared towards absolute beginners in Python and is open to everyone interested in learning Python. Come by on Friday evening to get your laptop set up to run Python. On Saturday morning, we will have a tutorial to walk through the features of Python, and on Saturday afternoon you can practice your newly-learned skills on some interesting projects!

Here's the full schedule:

Friday evening: Laptop setup and short introduction. 6 PM to 8 PM: Bring your laptop and come by the venue and volunteers will help you set up your development environment.

Saturday daytime: Bring your laptop with Python installed and ready to use and we will start the tutorials and projects.

9:30 AM: Early arrivals can chat with volunteers
10 AM - Noon: Welcome and introductory tutorials
Noon - 1 PM: Lunch (pizza), thanks to our sponsors
1 PM - 4 PM: Further tutorials and project time
4 PM - 4:30: Wrap-up

The format of the class will be a short lecture period of slides and demonstration of an idea followed by a short period in which you will be asked to do something simple from the material just talked about, and then we will repeat that for each new idea. In the afternoon, we will work through a larger problem, a twitter client using Python, to give you more experience and further confidence in using Python.

Make sure your laptop is fully charged just in case you don't reach a power strip.
