QS SHOW&TELL #11 (San Francisco - MedHelp)

MedHelp (map)

Selected By: Gary Isaac Wolf

Please join us for yet another interesting, fun night of self-tracking presentations, sharing ideas, and showing tools. If you are self-tracking in any way - biometrics, mood monitoring, life-logging, DNA sequencing, etc. etc. - come and share your methods and results.

Courtesy of Khaled Hassounah of MedHelp, this meeting will be held in the MedHelp offices at 927 Market Street. Thanks so much to Khaled. The MedHelp office is really convenient to public transportation, just a few minutes from BART and MUNI.

As before, there will be a social hour from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., with talks starting promptly at 7. If you know you will have something to present, send me a brief note in advance, and I'll slot you in. There will also be a sign up sheet at the meeting if you prefer to decide on the spur of the moment. Typical presentations are under 10 minutes, and there is no need for slides unless you feel like it.

Last meeting, for the first time, we had more presenters than we could fit in. If you wanted to present last time, but didn't, please remind me in an email. You'll get the first slots.

We look forward to seeing you all there!

Boston! I have some good news for you. Michael Nagle has taken the initiative to start a QS Show&Tell in Boston. It just got its own MeetUp page, here: http://www.meetup.com/bostonQS/calendar/12302390/.

Thanks again to everybody who came, presented, and helped out! We are experimenting in small ways with the format to keep the right flavor as the group grows. Your suggestions are much appreciated!

Ideal location right next to Powell St. BART, but getting to the meeting place was like the opening scenes of Get Smart. Using the elevator even required figuring out a trick with a key. But I'm not complaining, because it just made getting there more interesting! Quite a big turnout, and slicker presentations than the previous, cozier QS meetups I've attended. There was a bit of an Animal House spirit among a few audience members, which got out of hand sometimes, but other than that, this event was very well managed.

I liked it, but I missed the introductions. I think they've helped to make the meetings more personal in the past.

I enjoyed the excellent presentations and meeting smart, vigorous people.

Great talks and a great venue!

who knew there were so many people interested in this stuff?

It's very exciting to watch the field mature. The talks tonight showed a real advance in sophistication, with some really interesting interfaces, applications, and new ways to think about sharing and collaborating with data.

Liked the faster pace than the previous meetup I attended. I'd like to see more of the talks address what Kevin asked for at the start: insights about self-tracking and about yourself (or a larger group of people).

Despite old meetup presentations seeming to go on and on, I actually felt like the presenters at this meetup were rushed. There was one or two that were not that interesting, and so didn't need to go any longer, but some would have benefited from slightly longer times.

Informative, inspiring, and fun. Great variety of presentations, from the rigorous and techy to artsy and emotional: hearts and brains. I live in the east bay, so proximity to BART was extremely helpful. Many thanks.

This was my first time attending and all the presenters were interesting. The moderators were on it as far as keeping people to their allotted time (much appreciated!!) Only suggestion would be to have more time after all presentations were done to mingle and discuss rather than the hour before. I had to leave at 9pm and the last presenter wasn't finished. I would really have liked to connect with others there after hearing the evening's presentations to discuss.
