QS Show & Tell #33 (The Exploratorium)

Join us on Wednesday March 26th in the new Exploratorium building on San Francisco's Pier 15 for an exciting evening of self-tracking presentations, tool demonstrations, and conversation about the Quantified Self.

We're thrilled to be able to have our meeting in this wonderful space. Come to connect with friends, meet new people, check out tools, and learn from personal self-tracking stories.  Please RSVP as soon as you can.

6:00 -7:30 pm SOCIAL HOUR & DEMOS

As always, we'll start with healthy snacks and drinks and an informal demo and social hour. If you are making something useful for self-trackers – software, hardware, web services, or data standards – you are welcome to demo during the social hour. Please  let us know in advance if you want to participate.

7:30 pm – 9:00 pm IGNITE+ SHOW&TELLS

QS Show&Tell talks always answer our three prime questions: What did you do? How did you do it? What did you learn? These talks will be in our "Ignite+" format: 30 slides of 15 seconds each, with Q&A after. If you have a self-tracking project that you are willing to share, please let us know in your RSVP.

9:00 - 9:30 pm SOCIAL

Talk to the speakers, chat with friends, ask other people what they're tracking, hang out and have a great time.

QS SPONSORS:

The venue for this Show&Tell is generously being provided by our friends at The Exploratorium. We'd also like to thank our sponsors and friends of QS and our global partners, Autodesk and Intel, for supporting the Quantified Self movement. We couldn't do these programs without them. If you or your company are interested in sponsoring Quantified Self, or hosting a future Show&Tell at your office, please let us know.

Thank you and see you there!

I previously thought the best and most appropriate QS venue I was at was De Waag, in Amsterdam - a historic "weigh-house" and anatomical theatre. The Exploratorium topped it...

Smooth and well run. Ultimately I'd like to have gone a bit deeper with Sky's presentation to peer into the technology. I think we could have sacrificed some of the social time to allow for more nuts and bolts descriptions.

Hey Fellow QSers! Sylvain and I will be participating in the demo session. We are from Exogen Bio, a startup company spun-off from the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, that has developed the technology to allow you to monitor your own DNA for damage. We wanted to let you know that we have an indiegogo citizen science campaign to map DNA damage in humans to lifestyle/environmental factors and diseases. The campaign ends at 11:59 PM PST tonight! Check it out:
    http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/exogen-bio-how-damaged-is-your-dna/

If you have any questions, come find us during the demo session. Looking forward to meeting everyone and listening to some great QS talks!

I'd love to participate in the demo during the social hour if there is still time. I've been working on a sensor tracking application for Android using bluetooth and heart rate devices as well as other sensor data (Fitbit, GPS, accelerometer, etc).

I'm sorry the list is so long! We've tried many different ways to manage attendance, including offering refunds, and over time have settled on this as the best compromise. What happens when refunds are allowed is that the spaces go very fast as people register just in case. So now we just have price, and a waiting list, and if you reserve a space and don't use it somebody else drinks your beer. Thank you to everybody for your patience. We've been at this 5 years now and it is always evolving. We'll do another one soon! Gary

    Hi there!

Here's a question -- I, like probably most people on the waiting list, would be interested and willing to buy a ticket. But! I am more interested in the waiting list just doing its thing rather than having to ask here (so that people get tickets somewhat fairly.)

Is the issue that if you cancel your ticket, you don't get a refund, so the exchange of ticket needs to be done in a peer to peer way?

Just curious. I want a ticket! I also want other people who have been waiting longer to have a chance at a ticket before me. (But you know, if you have a ticket you want to sell I'll pay you back for it :)

Yeah that seems to be the issue. I just released mine, but it says "no refunds" so I'm down 10 bucks.

Love to join the Event but showing full - so if anyone is a no show let me know so I can attend. I build and operate aging centers and I'm focused on QS for my residents to both help manage their wellness and predict when we might need new residents.

I'm interested in everything QS. I'd like to share about our research project on Personal Genomics & QS. We're inviting people from QS communities to participate by an (anonymous) interview with us. I'm in SoCal so I hope to be your guest in QS Bay Area to tell about what we're doing. Cheers,

    Judith
