QS Show&Tell #23 (WellnessFX in SF)

Please join us on January 19th for another night of self-tracking presentations, sharing lessons learned, and showing tools.

We're returning to the beautiful offices of WellnessFX in San Francisco, which means a nice cozy meetup. Be sure to RSVP early to grab your spot. We'll be continuing with the Ignite Plus format (Ignite talks + Q&A period) for talks. Gary Wolf will be hosting, and Ernesto Ramirez from QS San Diego is coming up to help.

Anyone else who would like to volunteer, please write to me (Alex) at [masked].

Think: "science fair" for adults.

If you have a self-tracking project, gadget, app, or idea you'd like to share or demo, but you don't want to get up and talk about it, the workshop hour is perfect for you.

You don't need to have a prepared talk, or permission to show something. Just come and bring what you have. We will have tables and power strips where you can plug in a laptop if you like, but paper is good too.

Just to be clear, we save the talks for personal accounts of self-tracking and self-experimentation, rather than sales/investor pitches. But of course we are also interested in tools! If you are making something useful for self-trackers – software, hardware, web services, or data standards – please demo it in this workshop portion of the Show&Tell.

7:30 pm – 9 pm QS SHOW&TELL TALKS

If you'd like to talk about your project, please let us know in your RSVP so we can discuss your topic and how much time you'll need.

Don't know what Ignite means? Click here for more info and here for tips on how to deliver a fantastic quick-fire presentation.

A fantastic space is generously being provided by WellnessFX. Thanks too to IntelBasis, and Scanadu, our annual sponsors, for supporting the Quantified Self movement expansion across the country and around the world. Three cheers to them for making our gathering possible!

We use the sponsor money to pay for professional video recording and healthy refreshments, as well as to fund projects that help the larger QS community. If you or your company are interested in sponsoring Quantified Self, please let us know.

We are asking for an $10 donation this time, to help cover the out-of-pocket costs of a smaller meetup, maybe with some fancier food! And we're experimenting with making it mandatory to help make sure that people who RSVP actually come. We will have a big waiting list again, so if you know you can't make it, please change your RSVP to No.

Thank you and see you there!

Thanks, Gary Wolf, for leading an orderly evacuation from the fire. I'm looking forward to the next meetup.

That was an exciting first QS Meetup for me! While I didn't get to see most of the presentations, I look forward to the next/rescheduled one to continue the good networking and learnings.

Despite the fire drill that interrupted us, it was a nice gathering!

Thank you to everybody who participated in that fire drill (with a real fire)! The unexpected arrival of the San Francisco fire department to deal with trouble on a different floor of the building ended this meeting too early! We will reschedule, make sure people who paid don't have to pay again, etc., as soon as we figure out details.

As someone showing up for their first Meetup, I felt excluded and somewhat unwelcome.

Indeed! I left ater the evacuation, did the meetup continue after the fire department cleared the building?

    That meetup was on fire!

My health lesson from the evening - avoid the elevator, it might save your life! ;-) Hope everyone has a safe evening.

I too have been chasing emails inviting me to newly open spots - even immediately. I can drop everything to attend if I knew how!

    1. Unfortunately, not being able to RSVP early, I forgot to RSVP until a week ago, but which time the limit of 120 was reached.
    2. I get emails several times a day saying that someone has dropped out and I should register.... but no way to do so?
    3. If the last meeting was 240 people, how come a venue with only 120 seats was chosen?
Hope to make it next time.....

Thanks for the question, David! We decided to open RSVP's three weeks before the event, to minimize the drop-off rate from people RSVP'ing too early and then forgetting to actually come. :)
