What we’re about
Hi all you Raleigh knitters and crocheters out there! I hope you're as excited as we are about this meetup group, which allows us all to knit or crochet in each other's company and to trade patterns, techniques and stories. We began the group so that we would be required to set aside time to relax and knit, but also to help build a sense of community in this town and to meet people that we might not otherwise meet in our daily circles of work and life.
Knitters of all skill levels are encouraged to participate, though your organizers may not possess adequate skill to be much help for those having trouble working through their patterns. Luckily there are some pretty talented people in the group! We are all ages, all backgrounds, and we always welcome new people. Hope you can join us!
A few notes about the group . . .
1. $5 annual membership dues help cover the cost of Meetup site fee, which significantly increased in 2025. New members can try out the group for two meetups within 6 months of joining, and then must pay dues to remain a member. We will periodically remove members who don't pay dues and don't attend meetups in order to keep our membership numbers under control.
***Dues for 2026 are due by the end of February*** There are no refunds on membership dues.
Dues-paying members get first choice to RSVP for special events and holiday get-togethers.
2. If you RSVP for a meetup, please plan to attend. If your plans change, please change your RSVP to make room for someone else. We have to limit the RSVP number due to limited seating.
3. If you are the first one to arrive, don't panic - knitters are on the way! Either grab a coffee or a good spot to knit with lots of chairs.
New to knitting?
We'd be glad to teach you the basics and get you started on your first project. A garter stitch scarf is a good beginner project. Bring with you either 1) a Bulky weight yarn, such as Lion Brand Wool-Ease Chunky, and size 10 straight knitting needles or 2) a Worsted (medium) weight yarn, such as Lion Brand Wool-Ease, and size 8 straight knitting needles. (The yarns above are suggested because they are relatively easy to find in most craft stores and relatively inexpensive, but any bulky or worsted weight yarn will do. Just check the label and make sure to get the corresponding needle size for the yarn weight listed above.) Feel free to email Sandra if you have any questions before the meetup.
