A Message from a Local Farmer & Winter's Fare Potluck Tastings

We are fortunate to have Farmer Joshua, from Indiana, present the whole sustainable farming package for us to launch the New Year. What exactly does grassfed mean? (To read about this, see http://www.eatwild.co...) What is a sustainable farm? In what ways does it serve us and the community of small farmers? Why should we care? Farmer Joshua will offer samples of his turkey & chicken, cooked to perfection!laughing

The February Meeting will feature a potluck table filled with winter's appealing dishes, from appetizers to meat stews and platters, to root vegetables in every version imaginable, to desserts.

We welcome your contribution of any recipe or additions listed in the Nourishing Traditions Cookbook or the Shopping Guide (appreciated but not required for attendance at this event).

For ideas of what to make to contribute look through the 'Nourishing Traditions Cookbook'. Bring something you are very comfortable making, or experiment with a 'Nourishing Traditions Cookbook' recipe, or adapt a recipe to make it a traditional-ingredient version. Please bring a pot or plate of food to feed 8-10 people and an index card with your name, the ingredients, and page number if relevant; appreciated but not required for attendance at this event.

PS If you are pressed for time, bring some organic fruits in a bowl, crispy nuts or cultured veggies.

We appreciate your rsvp, as it helps us arrange the seating. Please include your guests, and if possible the dish you have decided to make, when you rsvp.

We will be in an excellent facility this year that allows us to expand and have many benefits, not to mention the incredible beautiful setting. As a result we ask you to help us to afford this venue by noting $3.00 per person requested donation.

I'm still waiting for my Nourishing Tradition book to arrive, however just got my GAPS cookbook so I'll bring a dish from the GAPS book instead, if that is OK. Breakfast Casserole, I never made this dish before so you'll all be my guinea pigs. Also, if anyone has extra Kefir grains to spare I would love some too. If not, don't worry I'll order it on-line.

That sounds great- it is just as helpful to have dishes from the GAPS book as it is to have dishes from the NT book.

Thanks to Farmer Joshua for his presentation about his farm and the ideas of our interconnectedness with the land and the animals. The roast chicken samples were delicious. The potluck offerings were all so yummy. Congratulations to the people who took their first steps in making recipes from the NT Cookbook. Thanks to everyone for your generous contributions of homemade dishes making for a fabulous potluck tasting giving us inspiration for the weeks to come.

This was a great Meetup! The potluck was abundant and the Farmer's that spoke with us were very informed and articulate, it is nice to have a direct line to ask questions that are on all of our minds. Looking forward to the next meeting.

I was delighted to see all the questions from the group for Joshua. Such thoughtful dialogue fosters strong connections between farmers and consumers. Many thanks to Joshua and Gary for taking time from their farm to share their love for caring for their land and animals.

Thank you to everyone for your hospitality! I thoroughly enjoyed speaking with you, and it was very motivating for us, as farmers, to be reminded of your enthusiasm. There were alot of ideas, and reminders that will motivate us, and that we will bring to our farm plans for this year. We read 'Acres' magazine, and it was nice to try alot of the food and hear alot of the ideas with which we're just becoming acquainted through that periodical. Also, I would love to host one of your meetings here at the farm.

It was good to hear from a local farmer and his perspectives about why he got into farming. It seemed he was new at presenting, was a little nervous, but that is OK.

Farmer Josh did a good job, so poised! The chicken they brought and all of the other dishes from the potluck were so delicious! I love all of the networking and community of this group!

I found this meeting to be five star all the way. The presentation and very lively Q&A was informative and quite useful information. Now, I would very much like to see Joshua's mother speak at one of our meetings in the near future. I think her knowledge of how nutrition positively impacts one's life could be of benefit to our group. Oh, and the food was super - a super supper. It's great to be able to go to a potluck and know that all the food is going to be of the quality that will actually give nourishment. Many thanks to the organizers, speakers, and all who attended. I thought the message from Joshua was very important. The advantages of local, small, organic farms goes beyond physical health, but to social and community health, and environmental health. What a great message. The food was great, as usual.

I liked hearing the farmer's presentation. I was glad to learn of the more humane treatment of his animals. I hope that he will continue to learn about healthy practices for the animals and consumers. The potluck was great! I made my first recipe from the book and it was well received.
