“It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it. If you think about that, you'll do things differently.” - Warren Buffet

Also known as:
Reputation Management/ Brand Monitoring/Reputation Monitoring

Recent Example: QLD Government staff google a security officer's name and find out he is wanted by Interpol. He could have used some proactive reputation management :-)

Essentially online brand management is about managing the information that customers write, read or say about you online.

With growth of social media/blogging sites like Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Blogger, Review sites etc it is easy to interact and air opinions about anything - including your products and services.

In the past only the big companies who could afford big marketing dollars could have a loud voice entering everyone’s homes ( by TV, Radio, newspaper and magazine ads).

Social media growth together with Smartphone & tablet growth means opportunities for getting your products and services in front of more pairs of eyes have grown immeasurably.

  • also means that opportunities for good publicity or bad publicity have grown

It’s easy to publish anything - articles, forum posts, blog comments, Tweets, facebook posts! Comes with its opportunities and challenges.

How to control(or live with) that? = Online Brand Management.

Proactive Management Owning your own space Monitoring Tools Triage Google Instant Avoiding bad press Creating your own good press Staff and Company Social Media Policies

Do a Google search on your own name, staff and your companies name. If the results aren't what you'd like (can't find you, official sites not ranking at the top, non-flattering) then you already need online reputation management.

This Meetup is still a few weeks off. If Monday night just doesn't work for you then please let me know a better evening.

Please pass the group link to other local business owners that might benefit from it.
