The Design Behind Marketing Automation

Let's be honest. It absolutely sucks about getting sold to via email. The UX is terrible: different sized fonts, no clear action of what to do next, little to no care about being thrown into a lackluster campaign to attempt to get you to buy some product or service that you don't give a shit about. But it's a necessary evil in a lot of B2B (and B2C) environments. If you're running a startup, work in a startup or want to be in a startup, you should be using marketing automation software and understand how this helps customer acquisition at scale. Even if you're not in a marketing function, you'll need to hire someone who knows it!

Marketing automation can develop new business and scale your sales operations exponentially. In this talk, Rachel will walk us through the design of a successful lead generation campaign - yes, the design because there are several moving parts that must come together. In this talk, she'll touch on marketing automation, the importance of database design before you ever send the email, pair programming for marketers, content design with personalization, and share insights from successful campaigns over the years.

About Rachel

Rachel hails from music-city Nashville, Tennessee where she got her start in marketing and public relations in the country music scene. Her experience ranges from writing copy for shot gun shells and jib furlers (now she’s writing Ruby and JavaScript) to creating rebranding strategies for 100-year-old nonprofit organizations. From the music, outdoor, textiles, nonprofit, and government sector, Rachel found herself in the tech industry – where she’d like to stay. Rachel has a rough time with idle time, so she also co-founded the Colorado Women’s Cycling Project (http://t.sidekickopen03.com/e1t/c/5/f18dQhb0S7lC8dDMPbW2n0x6l2B9nMJW7t5XZs4WrRtMW8p-Tf03Lr8pCW7fckrM56dTNxf6-qgD202?t=http%3A%2F%2Fnakedwomenracing.com%2F&si=5102278876856320&pi=582481ca-8782-401c-e5a3-411977208dce), co-organizes MTN Tech Marketing Meetup Group (http://t.sidekickopen03.com/e1t/c/5/f18dQhb0S7lC8dDMPbW2n0x6l2B9nMJW7t5XZs4WrRtMW8p-Tf03Lr8pCW7fckrM56dTNxf6-qgD202?t=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.meetup.com%2FMTN-Mktg%2F&si=5102278876856320&pi=582481ca-8782-401c-e5a3-411977208dce), Wednesday Morning Velo (http://t.sidekickopen03.com/e1t/c/5/f18dQhb0S7lC8dDMPbW2n0x6l2B9nMJW7t5XZs4WrRtMW8p-Tf03Lr8pCW7fckrM56dTNxf6-qgD202?t=http%3A%2F%2Fwednesdayvelo.com%2F&si=5102278876856320&pi=582481ca-8782-401c-e5a3-411977208dce) and Boulder Startup Week (http://t.sidekickopen03.com/e1t/c/5/f18dQhb0S7lC8dDMPbW2n0x6l2B9nMJW7t5XZs4WrRtMW8p-Tf03Lr8pCW7fckrM56dTNxf6-qgD202?t=http%3A%2F%2Fboulder.startupweek.co%2F&si=5102278876856320&pi=582481ca-8782-401c-e5a3-411977208dce), is a current board member for the Downtown Boulder Initiative (http://t.sidekickopen03.com/e1t/c/5/f18dQhb0S7lC8dDMPbW2n0x6l2B9nMJW7t5XZs4WrRtMW8p-Tf03Lr8pCW7fckrM56dTNxf6-qgD202?t=http%3A%2F%2Fdowtownboulder.org%2F&si=5102278876856320&pi=582481ca-8782-401c-e5a3-411977208dce), women’s committee member for the Bicycle Racing Association of Colorado (http://t.sidekickopen03.com/e1t/c/5/f18dQhb0S7lC8dDMPbW2n0x6l2B9nMJW7t5XZs4WrRtMW8p-Tf03Lr8pCW7fckrM56dTNxf6-qgD202?t=http%3A%2F%2Fcoloradocycling.org%2F&si=5102278876856320&pi=582481ca-8782-401c-e5a3-411977208dce) (and former BoD member), and current advisory board member to the Denver Nordic Association, Opera Denver, and Inside the Orchestra. Her athletic ADD is just as bad, diving into new sports as quickly as she can obtain the gear. She’s an elite road and mountain biker, daily hot yoga addict, avid climber, trail runner, nordic skier, and is dabbling in biathlon after a failed attempt at motocross.
