New Meetup: Sportrock Alexandria 9/27

From: Caitlin
Sent on: Wednesday, September 24, 2008 11:15 PM
Announcing a new Meetup for The VA/MD/DC Rock Climber's Meetup Group!

What: Sportrock Alexandria 9/27

When: September 27,[masked]:00 PM

Where: Click the link below to find out!

Meetup Description: The Essentials
If you're late, look for me (girl with chin-length brown hair) - I will have some kind of brightly colored bandanna tied to my harness or belt loops. If you don't see me, tell the staff you're there for the meetup group and you're looking for me (Caitlin).

Normal day pass: $18
**If you tell the staff you are with the meetup group they usually discount the day pass price to $14**
Climbing shoes and harness rental: $6.50
Feel free to bring your own gear if you have it.

The gym is a short walk from the Van Dorn metro station and there's usually plenty of parking (though you may have to park at the back of the building). Check for more details.

If you have not been to the gym before, you will need to sign a waiver.
EVEN IF YOU HAVE BEEN BELAYING SINCE THE DAY YOU WERE BORN, YOU WILL NEED TO PASS THEIR BELAY TEST TO BE ALLOWED TO TIE YOUR OWN KNOT AND BELAY OTHER PEOPLE! If you don't know how to do these things, you can take their Basic Skills course and then take their test.

Other Info
If you've never climbed before, I'll show you some tips on how to get started in climbing. We have a very friendly group of people, so don't worry if you struggle at first! Everyone's been there at some point.

Wear clothes that are easy to move in. Avoid short shorts, because they tend to be uncomfortable with the harness. It can get pretty warm in the gym, so you may want to wear layers. A water bottle is always a great thing to have with you!

If you have any questions at all, just send me a message and I'll be happy to help!
