Announcing a new Meetup for The VA/MD/DC Rock Climbers Meetup Group!
What: Annapolis Rocks - one more outdoor trip
When: November 8,[masked]:00 AM
21843 National Pike
Boonsboro, MD 21713
Time for one more outdoor trip before winter!
This is a day trip to Annapolis Rocks - which is nowhere near Annapolis. Instead, it's up near Fredrick, MD on the Appalachian Trail. The routes here are moderate-to-difficult, so this isn't a great beginner's trip. There are some very nice routes in the[masked]a range, including "Black Crack", a classic 5.9 that I'd like to bag. There's some info at this site
but the guidebooks have more route information.
The only downside is the hike to the cliffs - 2.5 miles of rolling hills, carrying climbing gear - and then 2.5 miles out at the end of the day. Carpools
We'll meet at Shady Grove metro at 8am, and carpool up to the trailhead. You can also meet us up there (either the trailhead or the cliffs) if you prefer.Meetup info
As usual, I'm starting out with a low limit and a wait list. The more climbing ropes we have, the more people we can include. Please post if you can bring a rope. The maximum group size is 12 people (if we can get ~4 ropes).Weather
If it's below 50 degrees or raining, the trip will be cancelled. In that case, I'll send an email by Saturday afternoon.
