Stapleton Central Park New Years Fly 2012

Details
HAPPY NEW YEAR! Please JOIN US for Kite Flying on New Years Day! All are Welcome! Regardless of weather!
Formerly the site of Denver's ORIGINAL International Airport, Stapleton Airport has been redeveloped into residential and commercial subdivisions. Martin Luther King Blvd. was extended across the former entrance to the long ago removed Terminal eastward across where there were once runways. Cement debris from the demolished tarmac are the base buried under the grassy hills in the center section of Stapleton's Central Park. A straight sidewalk with light posts runs west to east, mimicking a Runway. The one remaining structure that identifies that this was an Airport is the Control Tower. The adjacent parking garage structure was being demolished when this was written in April, 2011.
This field has been the site of Denver's One Sky One World (OSOW) kite festival on the 2nd. Sunday in October since the fly was moved from Sloans Lake to Stapleton in 2008.
Team iQuad visited us for the 2010 OSOW. Please see our past Meetups on here for more.
We first attempt to fly on the East side of the park, at Beeler St.parking area, and "iQuad" pond, OR if there's soccer, we can go to the grass slopes and center pavilion area near the playground, which is a quarter mile west of Beeler going west on MLK.
