    It is possible to survive entire campaigns as well. One of my players had a character survive three campaigns, one of which which was Masks of Nyarlathotep. Masks is considered to be the deadliest of the Call of Cthulhu campaigns (which I can attest to. In that one, there was a body count of 9 characters plus two driven permanently insane). Insanity is an ever present threat as well. I should also point out that Mountains of Madness isn't particularly deadly until late in the story.

    Another fun aspect of Call of Cthulhu is the ever present threat of insanity. While permanent insanity is effectively the same as death (the character is no longer playable and spends the rest of his/her life in an asylum) temporary and indefinite insanity can make for some fun roleplaying experiences.
