New to programming? Learn Ruby on Rails in collaboration with others/instructor

Details

Note: We will start at 7:30pm this week.

Learn Ruby on Rails in a collaborative, interactive environment with a mentor. Please feel free to contribute financially at www.RubyNuby.net (http://www.rubynuby.net) so we may continue with our socio-economic mission.

This week, we will continue with the free, online book Rails Tutorial by Michael Hartl as the backbone of our class. It is located at www.railstutorial.org (http://www.railstutorial.org/)

We will be in Room 317. Snuggs will let us know shortly what material will be covered in, Rails Tutorial by Michael Hartl. Last week , we covered Models/Applications.

Having gone over the chapter before the class will help! We will continue with where we left off (actions, resources). We will also pair you with a partner to work on Michael Hartl's exercises during the class.

In order to incentivize helping with our socio-economic mission of teaching tech and entrepreneurial skills to low-income youth, each week for our classes, we use a manual waitlist with priority seating in this order:

Attended the volunteer meeting at 6:30pm the previous week. Signed up for the 6:30pm Volunteer meeting right before this class Donated at www.RubyNuby.net Open to the rest based on first come first serve basis.
Attending the one-hour volunteer meetings and/or volunteering during the week results in reserving a seat in our free two-hour classes. This is our way of paying forward to our Community of Contributors™ and helping with our socio-economic mission of teaching what we learn to low-income youth. Usually, several stay after class to pair program and learn from each other.

PLEASE backup your laptop before attending this meetup as you may decide to install software on it during the class. Just a good computing practice.

We are currently partnering with TECH@NYU (http://techatnyu.com/), the NYU student group for tech enthusiasts. They are generously providing meeting space .

Description of meeting space: Classroom with about 5 electrical jacks, free wi-fi, a projector which connects to instructors laptop.
